Issue 003: The Free-First Newsletter Stack For Agent-Native Teams

The newsletter version of Vibegrow's article on starting small before paying for a newsletter platform.

Hi,

You do not need a full newsletter platform to start learning from readers.

You need a smaller loop:

  • capture
  • archive
  • export
  • unsubscribe
  • send
  • learn

That is the free-first newsletter stack we are using for Vibegrow.

The signup form lives on Vibegrow. The archive is public. The export path includes unsubscribe URLs. The first sends can be manual or run through the simplest sender available. The results decide whether the next upgrade is earned.

The key rule:

Manual send is not the forever plan. It is the cheapest honest first plan.

Move to Buttondown, Kit, beehiiv, Substack, Resend, Postmark, listmonk, Mautic, Ghost, WordPress, or another tool when the bottleneck is specific: deliverability, templates, automation, segmentation, non-dev editing, analytics, or compliance workflow.

Do not buy the sender because the newsletter idea feels real.

Buy or self-host the sender when the manual loop has proven it is too slow, too error-prone, or too limited for the audience you already have.

That is the difference between a free-first stack and a fragile stack.
